The route starts at Grant's Tomb at 122nd St and Riverside. Then up Riverside Drive to the GWB, north along Hudson Terrace to East Palisades. Then, we go west to North Woodland Street, but rather than turning right and going north, we turn left and head south on South Woodland Street. It goes down to Leonia and through Overpeck County Park where the Hackensack River becomes Overpeck Creek.
From there, the route goes around into Ridgefield, which requires crossing disused railway tracks, then descends dramatically through Edgewater, going down to the Hudson River Walkway. This is an almost continuous greenway that runs along the river. You can’t go too fast because folks are strolling, walking dogs etc, however, the views of the Manhattan skyline are well worth slowing down for.
The route passes through the recently restored Hoboken Terminal - note the Tiffany glass. Remember to walk through the station so you don’t get into trouble. Continuing into a revitalized Jersey City, the Katyn Memorial at Exchange Place is striking and kinda disturbing. The route heads briefly inland at the giant Colgate clock then crosses over into Liberty State Park coming back to the waterfront right behind the Statue of Liberty. From here you can see why New Jerseyites think that this is their statue. I guess we can share it with them. The route continues north along the waterfront finally ending at the Liberty Landing Ferry. $7 gets you a ferry ride back to Manhattan.
