GPS route is 2009 variation, differs only in that there is no turn onto Beattie off Twin Arches.
Metro North to the start in Garrison and to return from Beacon: bring your Bike Pass.
6300-7400’ vertical gain. Hilly (listed on cue sheet) on way out. Rolling on return. Lots of climbs: 7 Lakes Dr, Hogback, Mt. Peter & climb out of Port Jervis. Optional bailout from Warwick to Goshen but train from Port Jervis unreliable. Fast return to Beacon if westerly winds are blowing. Ride not advised if strong Northeasterly winds on return. This route is best done in the time of year with lots of daylight. Beacon-Newburgh Bridge bike path closes at dusk/sundown!
Water available at carousel at Bear Mtn and Tiorati Circle.
The 2013 cue sheet takes a right off Twin Arches onto Beattie just after the railroad underpass. It will save you a bit over a mile on the return.
New Jersey's High Point State Park option from Warwick to Port Jervis. It adds 4 miles and another 500' vertical gain:
Warwick to Port Jervis via High Point SP – 28+ miles: rolls, climb, descent
0.8 L Grand St/Rt 1B
3.0 BL TRO Rt 1, @ junction Rt 41
0.2 R TRO Rt 1/Pine Island Tpk
4.3 S Liberty Corners Rd (do not turn right which is Rt 1, the original route)
2.3 R Oil City Rd, becomes State Line Rd (you will cross the Wallkill River on this stretch)
3.6 R Rt 284
0.6 S Main St, Unionville (Rt 284 goes off to right)
0.4 BL Unionville Rd (Pine Hill Rd goes straight/bears right)
0.6 R Mt Salem Rd (to end, can see High Point tower ahead at times)
3.8 L Mountain Rd/Greenville Rd
1.5 R Rt 23 (climb ridge to High Point SP 500' gain, can do park loop on right)
5.9 L Rt 6, Port Jervis
0.6 L Jersey Av, Port Jervis
0.7 Erie Hotel, 9 Jersey Av, left, lunch
If taking the above optional leg, fluids/food at Annabel Pizza, 6 Main St, Unionville
Terry Leaves gets credit for the current appoach to Goshen, avoiding a lot of road nonsense.
An option en route leaving Port Jervis is taking the Greenville Turnpike rather than Rt 6, on the cue sheet. The GV Tpk will merge with Rt 6 just west of where Rt 1 joins Rt 6 on the way out.
